  3. <hi style=afpcap>During flight testing of the Lockheed YF-22 service-test aircraft, the first missile launch was made on 28 November 1990. The YF-22 fired an AIM-9M Sidewinder missile at the China Lake Naval Weapons Center. The Sidewinder is one of the most successful missiles ever built but the Air Force wants a whole new generation of missiles for the production F-22 and is seeking what it calls the AIM-9X to equip the F-22 for combat early in the next century.</hi>
